Gigabyte Motherboards Naming Scheme

Aorus Motherboards

Gigabyte uses a tier system of naming for their Aorus line of boards, they are placed after the chipset code and 'Aorus'. For example the X570 AORUS MASTER. They are:

  • XTREME / Gaming 9
  • MASTER / Gaming 7
  • ULTRA / Gaming 5
  • PRO / Ultra Gaming
  • ELITE / Gaming 3

(In order of best to worst).

  • For motherboards like the B450 AORUS M, the 'M' just denotes that it is a Micro ATX board, it is a tier lower than the Elite line.

UD Motherboards

The UD (Ultra Durable) line of boards are named in 2 parts: First is the chipset and form factor, and the second is the suffix.

The first part denotes the chipset, and an M indicates that it is a Micro ATX form factor, while an I or N indicates that it is Mini ITX

The second part is an elaborate albeit somewhat confusing designation of features on-board. The following list shows the explanation of the suffixes:

Suffix Break Up Explanation
S S Standard PCIe 3.0 - One x1 slot
S2 S2 Standard PCIe 3.0 - Two x1 slots
H H S2 + HDMI port
S2H S2

2H

S2 = Two x1 slots

2 extra video outputs (HDMI + VGA + DVI-D)

S2PH S2

2P

H

S2 = Two x1 slots

2P = 2x PCI

H = HDMI and VGA

S2V S

2V

S = One x1 slot

2V = DVI-D

DS2 DS2 DS = Double S or S2 = two 2.0 x1 slots
DS2V DS

2V

DS = Double S or S2 = two 2.0 x1 slots

2V = DVI-D

D2V D2

2V

D2= Two x1 slots

2V = DVI-D

D3 D3 Minimum 3 PCI in any combination
D3P D3

P

D3 = 3 PCI

P = additional USB slots with WIFI (optional)

DS3H DS3

H

DS3 = Two x16 slots

H = HDMI

D3H D3

H

D3 = 3 PCI

H = HDMI

HD2 HD2 Any combination of 3 PCI + no M.2 slots
HD3 HD3 Any combination of 3 PCI + M.2 slots
HD3P HD3

P

HD3 = 3 PCI + M.2 slots

P = additional USB slots with WIFI (optional)

D3V D3

V

D3 = Minimum 3 PCI

V = DVI-D

For example, B550M DS3H. First part denotes that it has a B550 chipset, and is a Micro ATX form factor. The second part; DS3H breaks down into DS3 = Two x16 slots and H = HDMI
